Craig Carey Prepares for NFL

by Tom DeWees on Mar.08, 2010, under Men's Teams

It’s no surprise that UC linebacker Craig Carey will be participating in UC’s pro day later this week.  What is a surprise, is that he will be doing so as a tight end.  Craig came to UC as a quarterback but following his sophomore year he switched to the defensive side of the ball.   Now with the help and support of his former team mate Connor Barwin the pro scouts at Nippert will be  watching the Cincinnati native catching the ball, not throwing it or defending it.

Last year UC’s pro day attracted executives, scouts and head coaches from almost every NFL team.   Pro day is scheduled for March 10 on campus, should weather be a problem it might be moved to an indoor facility.

Gilyard Shines at Senior Bowl

by Tom DeWees on Jan.30, 2010, under Men's Teams

UC wide receiver Mardy Gilyard went to the Senior Bowl to make a statement about himself as a football player, he did just that.  Saturday afternoon Gilyard not only helped the North team to a victory, but he was chosen as the most outstanding offensive player in the game with 103 yards receiving and one TD.  Here’s a recap of the Senior Bowl form our friends at WALA TV in Mobile.

Tony Pike led the North squad on a couple of scoring drives early in the game and turned in a strong performance.

by Tom DeWees on Jan.27, 2010, under Men's Teams

It’s one thing to have players represent UC in the Senior Bowl, it’s another to have such outstanding young men wearing the “C-Paw”.    Most of us have heard the incredible story of Mardy Gilyards come back.  How he lost his scholarship and had to work his way back on to the team.  This week at the Senior Bowl a reporter from on of the TV stations sat down with the UC receiver and let him tell the story again.

Bearcats at Senior Bowl

by Tom DeWees on Jan.26, 2010, under Men's Teams

Monday afternoon three Bearcats began a journey that will hopefully land them on an NFL roster this fall.  Tony Pike, Mardy Gilyard and Mike Windt are representing UC at the Senior Bowl this week in Mobile, Alabama.    As part of the North Squad the Bearcat trio is being coached by the Detroit Lions coaching staff, and it looks like the first day of practice might not have been the best.  But as Tony Pike says in his interview it’s tough not only being away from football for a few weeks, but there is a tremendous adjustment to different players, a new scheme, and working with NFL coaches.  Here is some video and interviews with the Senor Bowl Bearcats.

Bearcats Look To Louisville

by Tom DeWees on Jan.22, 2010, under Men's Teams

Sunday afternoon the Bearcats will take their two game wining streak on  the road, actually…down the road.  The team will travel down I 71 to the unfriendly confines of Freedom Hall.   Coach Mick Cronin knows how tough it is to win there, especially with the pressure defense brought on by Rick Pitino.

We will have more from todays press conference as the game approaches over the weekend.
