Tuesday night the UC Women’s Basketball team tried to pick up their second conference win of the season against a very good Georgetown team. UC took a two point lead into the locker room at halftime against the #19 ranked Hoyas. But as Ashley Morgan reports mistakes at the end of the game kept the Bearcats from pulling the upset.

by Tom DeWees on May.28, 2009, under Basketball, Women's Teams
While some Bearcat teams saw success this past year others saw change. Following the regular season Athletic Director Mike Thomas decided to make a change in the women’s basketball program. During the first week of April, Thomas brought in long time UCONN assistant coach Jamelle Eliott to take the program in a new direction. Reporter David Harding had our coverage of this story.
Worlds Best Bearcats
by Tom DeWees on May.28, 2009, under Dance Team, Women's Teams
As the school year comes to a close we look back at the year in sports on campus. The biggest story goes to the football team for bringing the first BCS Bowl appearance to campus, but who gets credit for the biggest win? Was a trip to the Orange Bowl the biggest accomplishment on campus? It all depends on where you look. Along with two Big East trophies UC also collected a national championship, and a world title. Who…what…where… ? Kristen Liguori has the interview with the first ever Bearcat World Champions.
We would like to thank UC Dance Team head coach Lisa Spears for allowing us to visit a practice and for being so helpful with our coverage. These young ladies work as hard and as long as any other sports team on campus. Congratulations on a fantastic year and good luck. Bearcat Sports Page looks forward to picking up our coverage of this world champion team next year.
Post-Game Tailgating
by emily gallegos on May.07, 2009, under Lacrosse, Women's Teams
Every sporting event has some sort of tradition. During football season you’ll see tailgaters in parking lots, you’ll see parades for the start up of baseball season, in track you’ll have the winner of an important race do a victory lap, even horse races have their own particular celebratory drinks and flowers. In college lacrosse, you’ll find a tradition that involves friends and families of the players. Supporters of the teams travel from their hometowns to catch the games and organize a post-game tailgate after every game.
The friends and families at the tailgating events travel from all over the east coast to see their daughters play. Even when they’re on the road, parents try to make every game…. and the never forget to bring the food.
The Steeplechase Event
by emily gallegos on May.06, 2009, under Track (Men), Track (Women)
Some of the more popular events at track meets include pole vaulting, hurtles, and relays. But once you go to a track meet, there’s one event that will leave you a little puzzled. The steeplechase event is an unusual but popular event at the Big East track meets. Even though this track season is over, this event is something to keep an eye out for next season.
World Champions !!!!
by liguorka on May.05, 2009, under Basketball, Dance Team
What is the most successful team in UC history? What team has won the most national championships? Basketball…wrong! It’s the UC dance team. This past year they collected their fourth national title at a competition in Orlando, Florida. The title not only solidified their dominance in competitive dance at the collegiate level, but it got them an invitation to represent their country in world competition. Our Kristen Liguori has the story of their quest for a World title.
For those that see the team perform at basketball games may not realize the talent these girls have. They attract incoming freshmen from around the country with their reputation in competitive dance. We were invited to one of their practices, and once they got back from their 2 mile run they went at hard for 4 hours. This is their routine 5 nights a week, so the next time they take the floor at half time stay in your seat was watch the best dance team in the world perform in your own back yard.

Tennis Starts Big East Tournament
by Tom DeWees on Apr.17, 2009, under Tennis ( Women), Women's Teams
This past weekend the women’s tennis team had their first home match on campus, then they had their last home match on campus. With the unpredictability of Cincinnati weather they spent almost all but this past weekend indoors. The team won’t complain because they were very successful this year playing inside, but this weekend they will definitely be outside. As Abbey Cummins tells us the the weekend home stand was a last minute tune up for the conference tournament.
The Cats first match in Tampa will be Thursday morning at 9am against the #9 seeded Pitt Panthers. UC defeated Pitt 6-1 last weekend. A win would putUC up against the #1 seed, Notre Dame on Friday.

The Big East Conference announced that Gettler Stadium on UC’s campus will host the 2110 Big East Championship meet. The meet will take place April 30th, 2110. This is the second time the campus has been chosen to host a conference championship. In 2005 the volleyball team hosted the Big East meet in Fifth Third Arena.
